Rainy Day Activities
Rainy Day Adventure. Dress the kids up in gumboots, hats and raincoats, grab the umbrellas and head outside. You could go for a walk to your local park or even just walk or ride around the block on scooters or bikes. The best part is that it doesn’t matter if the children get a little wet because you can just pop them into a lovely warm bath when you get home.
Magic Time. Have the children put on a magic show. Get your video camera and record the show. Then watch it back with your children on the tv. What child doesn’t love watching themselves on the tv?
Family Movie day. What’s better than snuggling up with your kids, a blanket and some snacks to watch movies together? Find a movie the whole family will enjoy, cook up some popcorn and enjoy the show.
Bake up a Storm. Do some baking with the children. Choose an easy recipe that won’t take too long to make so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labour soon after. Something easy like cupcakes is always a favourite with kids.
Balloon Tennis. Blow up some balloons and make tennis rackets for the kids to hit the balloons with. You can just use a paper plate with a ruler (or anything you have handy) taped to the back to make a racket.
Play Hide and Seek. This one is a favourite for kids of all ages and doesn’t require any preparation or materials. Your kids will especially love it if you pretend that they are impossible to find.
Boogie Time. Play some of your children’s favourite music and have a disco in the lounge room. While being a lot of fun, it will also burn off some pent-up energy and everyone get some exercise in the process.
Break out the Board Games. Spend some quality family time together playing some of your favourite board games. Don’t forget the snacks!
Cubby Mania. Help your kids construct their own cubby house in the lounge room. They'll stay busy all day long with fun, quiet activities to play inside their new imaginary castle.
